Starfish Family Resources maintains a list of Community Resources to help families navigate the legal, financial and emotional challenges the come with divorce, separation, co-parenting and multi-family dynamics.   • Support Resources

    The Support Network –  The Support Network provides referrals to thousands of organizations, including services offered in Edmonton for families, parents and children. Helps individuals in Edmonton in crisis situations, by phone (211), in person and online.

    Edmonton Divorce Solutions –  Divorce coaching and managing your emotional divorce: your one-stop source for the support and answers you need to get back on track.

    The Family Centre – A non-profit agency that provides support and counselling for parents, children, teens and families.

    City of Edmonton Support Programs and Services Family Violence, women’s support services.

    Catholic Social Services – Support services offered Province wide.

    Boys and Girls Clubs – Big Brothers Big Sisters provide a variety of services for children and their families.

    Divorce Resources Group (Meetup) –  Public support group for coping with divorce: helps with the critical first stages of separation and divorce.

  • Counselling Support

    Counselling or Psychology Support can be helpful to every member of the family as the adapt to the new family dynamics following a divorce or separation. Psychology support may be covered by group benefits if you are eligible. Inquire directly with each organization to clarify fees and eligibility.

    The Family Centre – A non-profit agency that provides support and counselling for parents, children, teens and families.

    Heal My Heart Grief and Trauma Healing Centre. Psychologists specializing in grief.

    Insight Psychological – Psychology firm with specialities in children, couples, families and trauma.

    Edgar Psychological Psychologist providing child and family psychology services.

    Allegro Psychological Services – Psychological services for families, children and parents.

    Firefly Counselling – Child and family psychology services.

    Cornerstone Counselling – A non-profit agency providing counselling services.

  • Parenting

    Programs and services are available to support parents and children, as well as effective co-parenting.

    Parenting After Separation Seminar (PAS) – This is a free six-hour workshop designed to assist parents understand the process and effects of separation on their children and how to make positive choices about how they will continue to parent their kids.

    Parenting After Separation for Families in High Conflict – A secondary course for those who have completed Parenting After Separation (PAS). This course will teach you how to emotionally disengage from the other parent or guardian in the divorce and separation processes.

    Parent Link Alberta – Parent Link aims provide support and accessible parent resources in the community to help children develop and arrive at school ready to learn. Centres are located throughout Alberta.

    Canadian Equal Parenting GroupsA directory of Canadian groups concerned with supporting children’s relationships with both parents after a divorce or separation.

    Coparenting.caA wealth of information on parenting coordination and team supported divorce.

    Families Change Parent Guide to Divorce and SeparationThis website provides age-appropriate information to help kids, teens and parents deal with a family break up. The website was produced by the Justice Education Society in collaboration with Centre for Public Legal Education, Alberta.

  • Family Law Issues

    A wide variety of programs and services are available to help individuals get appropriate solutions for their family law issues.

    Legal Aid Alberta – Free legal information and referrals. Free legal advice based on financial eligibility.

    Alberta Courts Family Law Forms – Forms and processes for Divorce in Alberta.

    Alberta Courts Resources and Mediation – Family Law Information, Parenting After Separation, What Children Need, Focus on Communication and Family Mediation Services.

    Collaborative Divorce Alberta Association – Collaborative Divorce is an out-of-court process that enables separating or divorcing spouses to create their own settlement with the support of highly trained professionals. Learn more about the Collaborative Divorce process and find

    Family Mediation Services may be able to help you come to an agreement on parenting arrangements and other family issues without resorting to the courts.

    Alberta Family Mediation Society – Alberta Family Mediation Society, a non-profit organization that provides mediation services.

    Maintenance Enforcement Program – Everything you need to know about support and maintenance enforcement. The Alberta Maintenance Enforcement Program (MEP) helps to ensure that individuals meet their obligations to pay spousal and child support under the terms of their court orders and certain agreements.

    Child Support Calculator AlbertaOn-line calculator provides a quick and easy to calculate your basic child support amounts.

    Legal Aid AlbertaLegal aid is available for people who cannot afford to pay for a lawyer from their own resources.

  • Grief Resources

    Pilgrims HospicePilgrims Hospice Society provides grief and bereavement services to those who are anticipating a death, or have experienced a death, of a loved one.

    Jewish Family Services Edmonton Healing Centre for Grief and Loss serves those touched by loss. We offer workshops, presentations and courses for anyone who mourns.
